M3U8 player: the HLS streams inside your playlist
An address ending in .m3u8 is an HLS playlist — usually one stream, or a small set of renditions of one stream. Inside a provider’s M3U file, that address is the line a channel plays. KimberPlay plays those streams from the playlist or Xtream account you load. It is not a catalog of streams, and it does not supply them.
Playlist file and stream file are different
The M3U URL you paste into KimberPlay is the library: many channels, groups, and often an XMLTV guide. Each channel’s stream URL may itself be an M3U8. You do not convert one into the other. Paste the library URL, or sign in with Xtream, and the player opens the stream the account names. A single M3U8 copied from a web page is not a KimberPlay library unless it is the stream your source told you to play.
Where HLS playback has actually been checked
- Windows. The desktop app plays through the bundled mpv engine. Live HLS, MKV, HEVC, and raw TS have been played on a Windows 11 development machine. See the Windows setup guide.
- Linux. Playback uses your distribution’s mpv package. Live HLS has been played on Ubuntu 22.04. Setup is the Linux player page.
- Fire TV and Android TV. The Android app plays the streams in your imported library. Install steps are the Firestick guide and the Android TV overview.
- Browser. A browser only plays formats it understands, and only from sources that allow a web page to fetch them. The browser player guide is the limit list. If the browser refuses a stream, the Windows, Linux, and TV apps are unaffected.
On Fire TV and Android TV, Plus includes a phone remote. Its send-to-TV box can play a stream link on the television. That still has to be a stream you are allowed to open; the remote does not add a library.
No content included
KimberPlay provides no content or channels. It does not sell, host, or recommend playlists. Use a playlist you are authorized to access.
Loading the full M3U library, rather than one HLS address, is the M3U player for Android TV and the M3U player for Firestick. The schedule beside those streams is the EPG player.
