IPTV player for Linux

The Linux app is the same desktop player as Windows: your own M3U link or Xtream login, a guide, movies and series. Playback goes through the mpv package your distribution already ships. KimberPlay does not include the channels.

Install the build that matches the distro

kimberplay.com/linux serves the AppImage. On Debian or Ubuntu, the .deb package is the alternative. Make the AppImage executable, then run it. The player overlay needs a compositing desktop — GNOME, KDE, Cinnamon, and XFCE all provide one. Wayland sessions run that overlay through XWayland.

mpv comes from the distro, not from a private bundle: sudo apt install mpv, or the equivalent dnf or pacman package. That is what plays live HLS, MKV, HEVC, AC3, and raw TS. Verify the AppImage against the SHA-256 published beside the download.

Add a source you are allowed to use

  1. Open KimberPlay and finish the first-run setup.
  2. Choose M3U and paste the playlist URL, or choose Xtream and enter the server, username, and password separately.
  3. Wait for the import, then open a channel and confirm it plays before you troubleshoot the guide.

An Ubuntu 22.04 desktop has been checked for install, a demo import, live HLS through the distro mpv package, and the DVR screen. That check is a point in time, not a promise about every later build — replay it when the player changes. Fedora and other distros use the same AppImage and the same mpv requirement; they are not in that recorded table yet.

What the desktop player includes

Live TV, the guide, movies, and series are in the app. Plus on Linux matches the rest of the desktop column: more than one playlist, reminders, backup, skins, and DVR recording through mpv. Catch-up depends on the provider. Multi-view, Cloud Sync, and the phone remote are not part of the Linux or Windows player; those stay on Fire TV and Android TV. The feature matrix is the column-by-column version.

No content included

KimberPlay provides no content or channels. It does not sell, host, or recommend playlists. Use a playlist you are authorized to access.

Windows setup, including recording checks, is the Windows player guide. Xtream-only details are on the Xtream Codes player for Windows, and the login shape is the same here. HLS addresses are the M3U8 player page.
